DHL Global Forwarding, a reputed provider of air and ocean freight forwarding services, announced that it will be expanding its air freighter operation to meet the growing demand in the Asian as well as Trans-Pacific trades.

As per the official statement, the company plans to deploy a second Boeing 747-400F through Atlas Air. This deployment will be a follow up from the launch of the first air freight in 2017 and will connect Asia, Europe and the United States.

The flight will be operating between Shanghai Pudong and Cincinnati from where it will be returning to Incheon, South Korea. After South Korea, the flight will fly to Wuxi, China from where it will continue its journey towards Frankfurt-Hahn in Germany and ultimately return to the Shanghai-Pudong Airport. The operation launched last year will be rerouted to offer twice weekly departures from Wuxi to Frankfurt-Hahn.

DHL stated that it has undertaken this latest move in order to respond to the strong growth in demand for air freight, specially to meet the demand of outbound services ex Asia and through the transpacific route. The forwarder further said that the demand has been bolstered by the Chinese electric motors, electronics, mechanical and electrical appliances as well as medical equipment companies.

DHL Global Forwarding CEO Tim Scharwath reportedly said that the robust performance of large economies has caused demand to exceed supply. He added that a continuous trend of high volume and low capacity has been observed in the major trade lanes. The deployment of the second freight operation is aimed at bringing better logistics solutions to customers and increasing the operational efficiency of DHL.

DHL was obliged to deploy self-controlled freight as the DHL Global Trade Barometer increased from 64 in January to 66 in March, indicating solid growth in the global trade for the next 3 months.
