Innovega develops new AR & VR eyestrain management technology

The technology will effectively reduce 3D stimuli detection time, depth distortions, improve stereoacuity and reduce visual fatigue and discomfort of users.

Renowned optics firm, Innovega Inc. has recently announced that it has developed a technology to manage vergence-accommodation conflict that cause visual fatigue and discomfort to users while viewing near-eye displays.

As per reports, the conflict mainly occurs when 3D depth cues presented by a stereo 3D display, or the real world, stimulate the eyes to focus at distances that vary from the fixed distance at which the static display panel is focused.

Speaking on the development, Jerome Legerton, Chief Clinical & Regulatory Officer, Co-founder and Technology Co-Inventor, Innovega, said that resolving the vergence-accommodation conflict will effectively reduce the time required to identify 3D stimuli, reduce distortions in perceived depth, improve stereoacuity with fast frame rates and reduce viewer discomfort and fatigue.

He said that the company was pleased to reach this stage where it can describe and validate the continuous depth of field of its iOptik® contact lens-enabled wearable display optics.

Commenting on the development, Steve Willey, CEO, Co-Founder and President, Innovega, said that the company sees great value in solving these challenges to offer visual comfort to users, a goal that has caused other augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) developers to pursue strategies that eventually add a significant amount of weight, complexity, bulk and cost to their systems.
