Nikola partners with Bayotech to advance emissions-free hydrogen delivery

Nikola Corporation, through its HYLA brand, a global leader in zero-emissions transportation and infrastructure solutions, and BayoTech, Inc., a pioneer in hydrogen production, transportation, and storage solutions, is said to have announced a collaboration agreement to establish a stable supply of hydrogen for use in zero-emission commercial fuel cell EV fleets.

Apparently, Nikola Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, BayoTech HyFillTM bulk hydrogen transport trailers, and hydrogen generated at BayoTech's distributed network of hubs are all part of the strategic supply arrangement.

According to the report, Nikola, as the primary hydrogen offtake client, BayoTech intends to obtain low-carbon hydrogen this year in Missouri and in California in 2024. Nikola plans to acquire up to 10 BayoTech HyFillTM transport trailers to help transfer high-pressure hydrogen gas from production plants to refueling stations supplying fuel cell electric vehicle fleets.

Nikola Corporation's President and CEO, Michael Lohscheller, noted that Nikola and BayoTech share the goal of delivering dependable access to hydrogen across the U.S. In addition, to hasten the adoption of Nikola's Class 8 fuel cell electric zero-emission trucks, BayoTech's low-carbon hydrogen fuel and transportation technologies will be essential.

Sources reveal that BayoTech will acquire up to 50 Nikola Class 8 fuel cell EVs over the next five years, with a fleet of twelve trucks arriving in 2023 and 2024. The Nikola trucks will relate to BayoTech's HyFillTM bulk hydrogen transport trailers to distribute low-carbon hydrogen from BayoTech's hydrogen production centers to offtake clients.

Mo Vargas, the President, and CEO of BayoTech, emphasized the company's joy in becoming an industry pioneer in supplying hydrogen to local clients using zero-emission fuel cell vehicles. He also stated that collaborating with forward-thinking organizations like Nikola helps the business to speed up the deployment of the hydrogen hub network and boost the growth of the hydrogen ecosystem.
