Travel booking platform Klook raises US$225M in Series D+ Funding

Klook, a world leading booking activities platform, recently announced raising US$225M as a part of its Series D+ funding. The deal apparently marks the largest financing in the worldwide travel activities and services industry.

Reportedly, the latest move brings Klook’s total Series D funding round evaluation to US$425M. As per reliable sources, the round was led by the Softbank Vision Fund with participation from existing portfolio of investors including Sequoia China, TCV, Matrix Partners, and OurCrowd.

The funding move reportedly comes on the heels of increasing rate of trip bookings on mobile devices, which exhibited approximately a triple-digit growth in 2018. Klook as a part of its mobile-first approach and strong expansion strategies is claimed to see great feat amidst this backdrop, cite experts. Founded in 2014, the company, for the record, has turned out to be the most searched travel activities company on Google.

The funding round is reported to be part of Klook’s geographical expansion and penetration strategy. As per sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter, the company is looking forward to deepening its investments in Japan ahead of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo along with alleged plans to explore additional Japanese cities to serve inbound and outbound visitors.

Eric Gnock Fah, COO and Co-Founder of Klook was quoted saying that the latest move supports the company’s vision of standing as a top-notch app for all in-destination needs worldwide.

For the record, the Hong-Kong based travel firm last year made it to the headlines for its expansion into Europe, Australia, and United States, in a bid to deliver innovative and unique consumer experiences. The company has reportedly signed other global partnerships including the ones with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of Asia’s leading luxury hotel group and Rail Europe, a prominent distributor of European rail products.
