Twitter, the renowned social media platform, has reportedly rolled out its new view count feature where users can see how many views they got on their tweets.
As per reports, this feature is available for iOS and Android users and will be accessible soon through the web as well.
View counters are now shown in the app along with the number of retweets, comments, and likes. The firm has cleared that not every tweet will include a visible view count, as stated in a Twitter FAQ. The information won't be available for community tweets, tweets from Twitter Circles, or old tweets.
In terms of what qualifies as a view, it appears that it is basically any time the tweet appears on someone else's screen.
Additionally, it states that viewing a tweet on the phone after viewing it online counts as two views.
The feature was substantially more limited when it first became usable on Wednesday night. Some users who were able to access the feature early stated that they could only see the view counts on their own tweets only after clicking on them, which was not particularly new since the analytics feature was already in use to see how many impressions a tweet got.
Musk hinted that he was attempting to make image and text posts on the site more like video tweets, which already featured public view counts when he launched the feature on December 1. Additionally, he stated that it wasn't enough to only look at replies and likes to get the whole picture and that it was supposed to demonstrate how active the platform is.
In fact, increasing the amount of information that is accessible to the public on a social network is the opposite of what other platforms have been doing lately. Last year, Facebook and Instagram began allowing users to hide the number of likes their posts receive, a feature that has been tested for years.
