Guess and Alibaba collaborate to unveil AI concept for fashion stores

American clothing brand and retailer Guess, has recently teamed up with Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce giant to bring forth the potential of artificial intelligence in the fashion industry. This partnership has apparently allowed the retailer to train and refine its FashionAI technology. In this regard, a concept store has been set up at Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s campus (PolyU), showcasing Alibaba’s Fashion Artificial Intelligence (FashionAI) technology. Reportedly, it would be open for public for three days in this month, from July 5th to July 7th

For the record, the FashionAI concept store would be featuring a range of Guess apparels and Alibaba’s advanced AI technology including magic mirrors, next-generation trial rooms, and smart racks. Allegedly, this concept store is built on Alibaba’s e-commerce existing platform Taobao. Users can check into store via their mobile Taobao QR code and all the in-store items would be displayed so that they can add any item they like directly into the Taobao cart.

Apparently, in a bid to change the retail experience for the offline customer, Guess entered into this strategic partnership with Alibaba’s FashionAI project, claim experts familiar with the matter.

Armed with an intent to seamlessly integrate online and offline commerce by exploiting the potential of artificial intelligence and data analytics, Alibaba has also integrated the FashionAI concept into its New Retail model, cite sources. Speaking of the partnership, the CEO of Guess’s China division has been quoted saying that through this collaborative approach, the company is trying to change the retail experience in sync with the customer’s changing behavioral pattern. According to Guess, the need to innovate in real time is the only factor that can drive the ultimate future of retail. Reportedly, the entire project was assimilated in just five months, subject to the strong bond between Alibaba and Guess.
